GEISHA
GIRLS
Since
its inception post disco and glitter years, Southern
California's punk scene has bred a slew of bands creating
innovative, dark, genuine and ground-breaking music.
Orange County's Geisha Girls continue in that tradition,
and for the past four years have played just that--real
punk rock.
Gimmicks aside, Geisha Girls' music stands on its
own; melodic and concise with a hint of abrasion.
After some line-up experimentation, Geisha Girls'
sound solidified around the trio of John Roller (guitars),
Mike Shelbourn (drums), and Shawn Robert (bass and
vocals). The band spent the last year playing over
100 shows; including two West Coast tours and an appearance
at the renowned SXSW music festival, as well as performing
as the supporting act for legendary punk bands the
Flesh Eaters, Angry Samoans, and New Model Army. On
multiple occasions, Geisha Girls have performed as
the backing band for vocalist HR, doing entire sets
of early Bad Brains material.
September 12th sees the release of Disappearing
Act, Geisha Girls debut full-length album on
Number 3 Records, and follow up to their self-released
12" EP and
7" single (both sold out and out of print). Clocking
in at under a half hour,
Disappearing Act is the quintessential punk
rock album. Recorded and mixed by GG King at Radio
Beat Studios in Bellflower, and featuring artwork
by Chris D. (the Flesh Eaters/Ruby Records fame),
Disappearing Act is sure to set Geisha Girls
apart from the sea of bands who have forgotten what
punk is really about.
